Peru 🇵🇪 Last Day in Lima

Image
This was the end of our Uni World adventure but since our flight did not leave until a little after midnight on the 14th Carolyn arranged a private tour in Lima.  Carolyn, Jim, Phil, Priscilla and Jenny were given a tour of the “Real Felipe Fortress” that was built to protect from pirates and Corsairs during colonial times. The fortress construction started in 1747 and was finished 25 years later.  Above you can see where a cannonball struck the front of the fort.   I had never seen a tsunami warning before!  This was in front of the fort  Below is the Peru crest that is only on the flags in government buildings  The fort has two complementary fortresses:  king fortress and queen fortress  Display of Cannons from different eras.   The fortress was armed wit 240 cannons on top of the king and queen towers  Entrance to one of the matching towers  Stairs goin up inside tower Phil, Priscilla, Jenny, Jim and Carolyn on top of the tower...

Peru 🇵🇪 Cusco- San Blas

Image
We did a walking tour in the beautiful San Blas neighborhood in Cusco.   It is a very vibrant, artsy area.  During the Inca era it was recognized as T’oqokachi, where many architects and artisans used to live.   San Blas is known for its cobbled and narrow streets throughout the whole neighborhood.  Plazoleta de San Blas The Temple of San Blas  below.   It was under renovation so we could not go in.  It is known for its famous baroque pulpit which Harvey told us is the largest pulpit in the world.    We had a delicious lunch in this neighborhood serenaded by this harpist playing an Andean Harp And now the flight back to Lima
