Peru 🇵🇪 Last Day in Lima

This was the end of our Uni World adventure but since our flight did not leave until a little after midnight on the 14th Carolyn arranged a private tour in Lima.  Carolyn, Jim, Phil, Priscilla and Jenny were given a tour of the “Real Felipe Fortress” that was built to protect from pirates and Corsairs during colonial times. The fortress construction started in 1747 and was finished 25 years later.

Above you can see where a cannonball struck the front of the fort.

I had never seen a tsunami warning before!  This was in front of the fort

Below is the Peru crest that is only on the flags in government buildings

The fort has two complementary fortresses:  king fortress and queen fortress

Display of Cannons from different eras.

The fortress was armed wit 240 cannons on top of the king and queen towers

Entrance to one of the matching towers

Stairs goin up inside tower

In 1746 there was an 8.4 earthquake and tsunami and this is memorial for this tragedy.  Only 200 out of 5000 people survived. The anchor in display washed up to this point from a large distance.

This building is now a museum

Artifacts from different eras.

Tupac Amaru was the last monarch of the Neo-Inca state.  He was executed by the Spanish following months-long pursuit after the fall of the last stronghold of the Neo-Inca State

Pirates that raided the Spanish.

From the fort we walked on to the area that is called La Punta neighborhood near the fort.  This area is full of beautiful street wall art.

We had lunch in this cute cafe.

La Punta del Callao is where a lot of wealthy families live.

Playa La Arenilla Beach

Now we are off to the airport hotel to get ready for our midnight flight back to the USA!

This entire trip was a trip of a lifetime for me and I feel so blessed to be able to go here with my dear sister Priscilla and Bro-in-law Phil!!!  They made the trip truly special!

Any errors in facts in my blog are truly of my own making.
