Antarctica 2-14,15,16,17, 2022

Now we are back in the Drake Passage sailing back to Chile. 

 We were again lucky with the Drake being as gentle as the Drake can be. 
Besides our final interesting lectures I tried to get some bird pictures:

We made it back to Puerto William early in the morning and had to leave the ship at 8AM. We sailed a total of 3450 Nautical Miles!!



Note the cow on the road🤣.  

Back on our charter plane to fly us back to Santiago.  

This trip was all I dreamed of and more!!   Being in the luxurious accommodation of Silverseas Explorer with all the attentive, personable and knowledgeable crew then the stark remote and unspoiled land of Antarctica was beyond my expectations!

Sad goodbyes to new friends on February 16th at Santiago airport as we all ventured onwards ……some towards home and some still on their adventures.

Nine hour flight to Houston on Polaris Section of United with my own cubicle and flat bed!  So no complaints from me.  The plane arrived at 4:45 AM February 17th in Houston.  Not quite back to reality because I have 5 hours in the Houston Polaris Club before flight to Raleigh Durham.   But as you can see below, I am still very much on vacation and being pampered with shower, comfy resting areas, full breakfast and my signature Bloody Mary!


I should be home about 5:30 PM then reality and a sensible  diet begins!!!
My first solo journey could not have been better.

 January 23, 2026     Leaving Washington, Dulles airport at 10:00AM January 22nd I arrived at Kilimanjaro, Airport in Tanzania, January 23rd to embark on an amazing journey!!  Since I arrived at 10AM and a day early I was able to enjoy a wonderful spa treatment  at Gran Melia Arusha Hotel .  This is hotel with their own coffee groves and beautiful, lush gardens was a perfect start to a trip of a life time.       Coffee Groves at Gran Melia The coffee they served was from the beans they grew there and it was some of the best coffee I have ever tasted!   Above is Mt. Meru as seen from the top of the Gran Melia.  Mt. Meru is the 8th highest mountain in Africa. Unfortunately Mt. GERMAN CHRISTMAS MARKETS - DECEMBER 2025

I had to wonderful opportunity to go to Germany to visit Christmas Markets; Castles; Cathedrals, etc with Mike and Sara Streff.  The Streffs lived in Germany when in the service and have since gone back quite often in December for the Christmas Markets.   Mike  and Sara were the BEST guides and had the entire trip planned out with great detail!!           December 2, 2025   Flew from Roanoke to Washington Dulles and overnight to Munich in my little United Polaris Sleep cubby for the overnight flight.    December 3, 2025   Arrived In Munich Germany.   There were 6 of us on the trip:   Mike and Sara Streff (Our wonderful tour guides) Kurt Kaufman; Jill and Tom Walton and myself. Antarctica 1-25-22 Santiago

Arrived in Santiago this morning.   Mandarin Oriental Hotel  Above was view of my room while I awaited my negative COVID PCR test that was taken at Santiago airport.   And was set free to explore after I received the negative results.
