Antarctica 2-1-22
We arrived at Mikkelsen Harbor, a Rocky islet located on the southern side of Trinity Island, in the Palmer Archipelago.

Arriving on the shores one is greeted by whale bones and ruins of an old boat. From our expedition guides they feel the boat is from the early 20th because of the round nails and the way the lumber on boat was made.

There was a large Gentoo Penguin colony here

Here are 2 baby chicks that are molting with parent

Below is a fur seal.

Behind me is a small Argentina rescue hut

Silver Seas Explorer in the fog from the Island

We spotted 2 male leopard seals! The leopard seals are the 2nd largest seal in Antarctic (largest is Elephant seal). It’s only natural predator is the killer whale (Orca).

After dinner my fabulous butler, Sumit, set up dessert in my cabin to entertain my shipmates : Terri, Eileen, Mary Beth, Tom and Reamon

The whale bones have been wash to shore over the years from the “whaling era”.

In the afternoon we took an amazing 2 hour zodiac ride through extraordinary ice fields. The icebergs were so beautiful and it was like going through nature’s sculpture gallery
