Antarctica 2-7-22

Today we were the farthest south we were able to go.  It was also the farthest south this ship and most of the crew have ever been.

Original plan was to continue south but weather and thick ice meant we had to turned back north again.  Exploration in Antarctica, especially south of the Antarctic  Circle, are determined where you can explore safely by these conditions. Tentative plans are drawn out but flexibility is the key to these journeys.   Luke, our exploration leader, conferring with Captain Andriy Domanin, always came up with excellent plan B and C …….etc

We are now in the Southern part of Marguerite Bay.  The high swells and ice made it not possible to take zodiacs out in the morning.
I was able to enjoy the scenery and get a few pictures as we moved slightly north.

The afternoon made it possible to take the Zodiacs out and explore this icy beautiful area that I wish I remembered the name of but because there were so many changes that day I fear I do not remember!

Above is a male Crabeater seal. The one hole on belly is the penis location.
Below is a female.   The bottom two holes are mammaries and upper hole the vagina.

Blocks of ice brought into zodiac out of the water were like beautiful crystal pieces.

Antarctic cormorant

The water turned quite “chunky” as we headed zodiacs back to the ship.

Ending another fabulous day in Antarctica!!!
