Family vacation! Yippee!
We all arrived separately after long flights from Phoenix, Boise and DC Dulles.
Hunter, Adaline and Grady fueling up for their long flights.
Adaline’s first flight.
Smile Grady! You are in for so much fun and awesome adventures
Benjamin and William ready to get going!
And we are off to Honua Kai Resort and Spa about 20 minutes up the road from the town of Lahaina. We had 2 - 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom condos side by side.
As usual, I unpack and get settled in before I go exploring . The Phelps family headed to check out the multiple swimming pools. The Gorman family went straight to the beach. Because I did not follow my adventuresome family, I missed the sleeping seal on our beach. Unfortunately he never reappeared during the rest of the vacation.
Wednesday, June 14, 2023We explored the resort and had great beach time and multiple swimming pools

Life is a Beach!
Grady got tossed about in the waves and was not happy about it. But up to the resort with treats and Jammy time made life so much better! Jammy had the best treat of this amazing avocado toast while Grady was happy with ice cream and a smoothie:)
The Beach Boys:
Hunter, William, Grady & Benjamin
Miss Adaline had Jammy wrapped around her finger! She wanted buckets of water to dump in sand. She would look me in the eye and say “I need more”. Of course Jammy spent most of the day hauling water for Adaline:)
In the afternoon we all went to explore Lahaina. Our pet lizard bid us farewell
Jessica, Jenny and Janelle ready to explore
The fabulous and historic Banyan Tree in Lahaina was planted April 24, 1873 to make the 50th Anniversary of the first arrival of American Protestant mission. It was a gift from missionaries in India. It was only 8feet when planted and presently approximately 60 feet and rooted into 16 major trunks, apart from the main trunk, with the canopy spread over 0.66 acres.
Jessica was excited to show us all this magnificent tree that she and Josh saw when they were in Maui earlier

The Atlantis sunk this old ship to form a sanctuary for fish and sea life.
Our captain was excited to have the rare opportunity to spot this leopard shark chilling on the ocean floor
Our depth at one point of the trip.
While Janelle, Hunter, Grady and I did the sub trip, the Gorman family went out on a fishing boat. This was the highlight of the trip for Master Fisherman, Benjamin !
Jessica, William, Josh & Benjamin ready for the big catch!
William caught a beautiful red fish

We all met up for lunch in Lahaina
In Lahaina ~ Kids with their reed angelfish and Jessica’s cool sun drenched picture
This was the home of a physician and minister, Dwight Baldwin and his wife Charlotte who came from Connecticut as missionaries to educate and bring Christianity to Hawaiians. They moved into this house in 1835. The house is constructed of stone, coral and timber. It is a museum today with the interior and exterior showing the way it looked when the Baldwins lived there.

The Gorman family and I went on the Trilogy Catamaran on a snorkeling adventure to Molokini. Molokini is a crescent shaped partially submerged volcano which forms a small, uninhabited islet. This crescent shape makes it a nice protected area for snorkeling.
In Hawaiian legend, Molokini was a beautiful woman. She and Pele, the fire goddess, were in love with the same man. The jealous Pele cut her rival in two and transformed her into stone. The woman’s head is supposedly Pu’u Olai, the cinder cone by Makena Beach.
Josh and Jessica got great videos of under water creatures on the GoPro but unfortunately this blog doesn’t support videos

The Gorman family & I drove partially up the road to Hana to the Bamboo forest.
A quick stop at Jaws. Pe’ahi is the Hawaiian name for this place on the north shore of Maui.
It is a big surfer location due to the huge breaking waves.
This amazing bamboo forest is a hidden gem off the road to Hana that Jessica and Josh discovered on an earlier trip to Maui. It is part of the Pipiwai trail and has some difficult climbing areas. I only went as far as the first waterfall due to a recent knee injury but Gormans went up to 2nd fall.

Gorman family had a very early flight back to Arizona.
Phelps family and Jenny had a Red Eye flight back to mainland so had a day to kill in Maui.
First stop, The Maui Ocean Center Aquarium
Grady relaxing with the fish Hunter taking it all in
Silly Hunter & Adaline
And hard to wake up in San Francisco
First class back to the mainland. Grady was my seat mate and it did not take long for him to settle in!
At the United Club during our lay overs in San Francisco Adaline was the only one ready to start the day! But she could not get her brothers to rise and shine!!
And this was where I said my good byes to the Phelps family as they headed back to Boise and I headed back to DC Dulles.
The end of a fabulous family adventure!
